About the position

ConGlobal is seeking an experienced Lead Diesel Mechanic for our location in Toledo, OH. As a Lead Heavy Equipment Mechanic, you will be responsible for supervising mechanics who make repairs to heavy equipment within our terminals. This role requires a strong background in mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems, as well as the ability to troubleshoot and repair diesel engines from various manufacturers such as Cat, Cummins, and Detroit. You will work independently or as part of a team to identify problems and execute effective solutions. In this position, you will read and understand hydraulic and electrical schematics, perform maintenance and mechanical repairs on a variety of heavy equipment including cranes, top loaders, side loaders, hostlers, and forklifts. You will also maintain routine maintenance schedules on all heavy equipment and document repairs using an established reporting system, which includes written work orders and photographic evidence. Additionally, you will be responsible for operating diesel or electric powered automatic semi-trailer movers and overhead cranes, as well as communicating with other terminal operators, mechanics, and office staff via two-way radio. As a Lead Mechanic, you will oversee the entire mechanical operation and power shop operation, ensuring safety, administration, and productivity. You will also be responsible for training and orienting all employees, ensuring they possess the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform their assigned tasks. Scheduling preventative maintenance programs and managing the workforce to achieve 100% compliance will also be part of your responsibilities. You will directly supervise and evaluate all levels of mechanics and promote as required, while maintaining a clean and orderly work area. Safety gear such as hard hats, steel toe boots, safety glasses, and reflective vests/belts will be mandatory in this role.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise mechanics making repairs to heavy equipment within terminals.
  • Identify problems with mechanical, hydraulic, diesel, and electrical systems and execute solutions.
  • Read and understand hydraulic and electrical schematics.
  • Troubleshoot and repair diesel engines (Cat, Cummins, Detroit).
  • Perform maintenance and mechanical repairs on cranes, top loaders, side loaders, hostlers, and forklifts.
  • Maintain routine maintenance schedules on all heavy equipment.
  • Document repairs using an established reporting system (written work orders, taking pictures, using computer).
  • Perform welding as needed.
  • Operate diesel or electric powered automatic semi-trailer mover.
  • Operate overhead cranes, side loaders, hostlers, and forklifts.
  • Communicate with other terminal operators, mechanics, and office staff via two-way radio.
  • Oversee the entire mechanical operation and power shop operation (safety, administration, and productivity).
  • Train and orient all employees, ensuring they have the necessary skills to perform tasks.
  • Schedule preventative maintenance programs and manage workforce for 100% compliance.
  • Directly supervise and evaluate all levels of mechanics and promote as required.
  • Keep work area clean and orderly.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years of Heavy Equipment Mechanic / Service Technician experience required.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.
  • Hydraulic systems experience required (pumps, valves, motors, filters, and hoses).
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Ability to work in various weather conditions.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • 3+ years of heavy equipment knowledge required.
  • Hydraulic and electrical maintenance experience is required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous crane mechanic experience is a plus.
