About the position
The Lead Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for the safe operation of machinery and equipment at a recycling facility, landfill, or transfer station. This role involves coordinating the daily activities of Heavy Equipment Operators, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and operational efficiency.
Responsibilities
- Inspect all required equipment at the start of shift and during the shift, recording data accurately on daily inspection forms.
- Safely and efficiently operate various equipment including forklift, scraper, motor grader, sweeper, baler, excavator, bulldozer, and front-end loader.
- Continuously monitor equipment to ensure operational readiness, performing basic troubleshooting and reporting complex issues to maintenance staff.
- Review daily production schedules to estimate hour requirements for job assignments and establish work procedures to meet production schedules.
- Recommend measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality, suggesting changes for efficiency.
- Direct employees in completing work, interpreting company policies and assigning duties, while training new employees as needed.
- Ensure the shop is clean, serviced, and stored at the end of each shift.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in equipment operation.
- Valid certificate(s) of training and applicable licenses for operation of equipment, as required.
- One year prior supervisory or lead operator experience working at sites regulated by OSHA.
- Experience with equipment and tool management/facility maintenance.
