About the position

The Lead HIL Test Engineer will be responsible for designing, developing, executing, and troubleshooting test procedures for firmware features and applications. This role involves working with low to mid-level complexity systems and requires minimal supervision. The engineer will facilitate the review of engineering requirements, support agile project teams, and lead continuous improvement efforts in test development. Additionally, the position includes mentoring junior engineers and ensuring adherence to Milwaukee Tool's processes.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, execute, and troubleshoot test procedures for firmware features and applications.
  • Facilitate review and refinement of engineering requirements for test needs.
  • Facilitate peer-review of test designs and automation.
  • Support development of test plans to ensure firmware meets all requirements.
  • Support agile project teams through the new product development process.
  • Lead continuous improvement efforts of test development.
  • Conduct experiments, perform simulations, and analyze data to draw conclusions.
  • Use agile methods to define tasks, provide estimates, and communicate progress.
  • Schedule, develop agendas for, lead, and document technical meetings and presentations.
  • Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and coaching to junior engineers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
  • 2+ years of experience with verification/validation testing, hardware in the loop (HIL) testing, embedded systems, and/or PCBA design.
  • Ability to read schematics and component data sheets with a proficient understanding of digital circuits.
  • Experience using laboratory equipment such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and multimeters.
  • Exposure to National Instrument hardware and Veristand or other HIL systems.
  • 2+ years of experience in Python programming.
  • Experience participating in the software development lifecycle.
  • Proficient in tools for software configuration management, requirements management, and defect tracking.
  • Experience with DevOps, automated testing, and CI/CD.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work under pressure.
  • Self-motivated, organized, and process-oriented.
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written).

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience developing or executing unit tests and understanding structural testing methodologies.
  • Experience collaborating cross-functionally outside of core discipline.
  • Exposure to bare-metal firmware design.
