About the position
The Lead Hydraulic Engineer position at the Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) involves overseeing hydraulic engineering and water resource management related to transportation facilities. This role requires providing technical support, performing complex hydraulic designs, and ensuring compliance with state regulations. The engineer will lead a team, conduct field inspections, and collaborate with various stakeholders to enhance transportation infrastructure in Connecticut.
Responsibilities
- Oversee work of lower-level engineers.
- Perform complex design work related to hydraulic engineering.
- Conduct field inspections of bridge sites for design information.
- Review storm sewer and culvert designs prepared by state and consultant engineers.
- Provide technical advice on pollution control measures and storm sewer designs.
- Prepare computations for storm sewer and culvert designs.
- Analyze hydraulic problems and recommend effective solutions.
- Develop regulatory floodplain models to ensure compliance with state regulations.
- Conduct bridge scour evaluations and prepare related reports.
- Assist in the preparation and updating of the Drainage Manual.
Requirements
- A Bachelor's degree in engineering.
- Three (3) years of experience in transportation engineering.
- One (1) year of experience at the working level in a professional transportation engineering capacity.
Nice-to-haves
- Possession of an accredited bachelor's or master's degree in Civil Engineering.
- Engineer-In-Training (EIT) and/or Professional Engineer (P.E.) license.
- Experience in hydrologic and hydraulic engineering for transportation projects.
- Hands-on experience in watershed and hydraulic modeling using advanced software.
- Knowledge of Connecticut General Statutes related to Flood Management Certification.
