About the position

The Lead I position is a critical role within the processing team, primarily responsible for the setup, adjustment, maintenance, and configuration of processing equipment in accordance with assigned specifications. This role requires regular communication with production team members and supervisors to ensure smooth operations and adherence to quality standards. The Lead I will be involved in various tasks that contribute to the efficiency and effectiveness of the production process, including the completion of necessary paperwork to document operations and compliance with safety and quality protocols. In this position, the Lead I will turn on equipment at the beginning of each shift and ensure it is properly shut down at the end. Visual inspections are a key responsibility, as the Lead I must complete documentation during production runs to guarantee defect-free work. Monitoring the flow of materials through the machine is essential, as is performing minor package changeovers and ensuring that the correct raw materials are used. The Lead I will also assist line mechanics with machinery repairs and other tasks as needed, ensuring that all equipment is functioning properly before starting production runs. Additionally, the Lead I must ensure that proper coding is applied to boxes, trays, and cases, and that any graphics used are acceptable. At the end of each run and shift, the Lead I is responsible for clearing the machine of all products. The role also involves assisting machine operators during breaks and performing other duties as assigned by the supervisor. This position does not include supervisory responsibilities, allowing the Lead I to focus on operational tasks and support the production team effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Turns on equipment at the beginning of shift and shuts down equipment at the end.
  • Conducts visual inspections and completes documentation during the run to ensure defect-free work.
  • Monitors the flow of materials through the machine.
  • Performs minor package changeovers on equipment as required, as well as change-over to proper raw material.
  • Assists line mechanics in machinery repair or other tasks as needed.
  • Ensures that all equipment is on and functioning properly prior to starting a run.
  • Ensures proper coding is on the boxes/trays, cases, and that graphics are acceptable if applicable.
  • Clears the machine of all products at the end of each run and at the end of the shift.
  • Assists in relieving machine operators for breaks.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

Requirements

  • None required for this position.
  • Preferred: Previous poultry processing experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Ability to run all departments in Evisceration.
  • Experience working with USDA and QA standards.
  • Understanding and following proper procedures for USDA, QA, and HAACP.
