About the position

The Lead Level Information Governance Advisor at USAA plays a crucial role in ensuring effective governance over Member and Channel Data & Analytics Products. This position is integral to maintaining data quality, protection, and master data concepts, supporting USAA's mission to facilitate the financial security of military members and their families. The advisor will collaborate with various teams to implement governance requirements and provide advisory services to product teams, ensuring adherence to established processes and continuous engagement in governance practices.

Responsibilities

  • Provide governance, quality, integrity, and timeliness of operational data for the enterprise.
  • Establish and enforce enterprise data policies, standards, practices, and processes according to best practices.
  • Monitor the use of data to ensure careful control and effective use to achieve enterprise objectives.
  • Lead, motivate, and facilitate cross-functional teams in the development of information and data governance initiatives.
  • Direct the development of strategies, policies, principles, procedures, standards, and metrics.
  • Serve as a coach and mentor, providing guidance to cross-functional team members to ensure success in achieving business objectives.
  • Drive adherence to information/data management governance activities, projects, and approaches compliant with established policies and standards.
  • Influence business awareness of information/data governance through consulting and communication methods.
  • Author and contribute to information governance guidelines, principles, policies, and standards.
  • Lead the development of information governance oversight processes and enforce adherence through audits and monitoring of KRIs and KPIs.
  • Support the development of multi-year roadmap and implementation plans for information governance initiatives.
  • Create information governance training content based on internal and regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
  • Prepare and present formal findings and recommendations to all levels of the organization.
  • Ensure risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Architecture, Information Management, Information Technology, Risk, Audit, Information Studies, or a related technical field; OR 4 years of related experience may be substituted in lieu of degree.
  • 8 years of experience in Information or Data related practices including information governance, information management, risk, audit, information architecture, IT, analysis, and reporting.
  • 2 years of strong knowledge and demonstrated ability to create and evolve Data Development and Data Engineering processes.
  • 2 years operational knowledge of risk management and mitigation frameworks.
  • Experience in developing Data Governance and Data Management Strategy, road map(s).
  • Expert knowledge of industry information/data governance best practices.
  • Certified Information Management Professional (CIMP), Information Governance Professional (IGP), Certified Information Professional or equivalent industry certification.

Nice-to-haves

  • 10 years of experience in a Financial Services Institution supporting in a Data Management & Governance Role.
  • 8+ Years of Experience in Data & Analytics Products, Data Quality & Critical Data Management/Master Data Concepts, Reference Data Management, Data Retention, Data Rule Definitions, Sensitive Data Management, Analytical Dashboards & Solutions.
  • Expert User with Big Eye and Alation Technologies for Data Management, and SaFE Agile Processes.
  • Data Governance in Snowflake and other Cloud environments.
