About the position

We are seeking a Lead Instructional Designer to be a core member of our Human-Centered Design (HCD) team. This role involves working closely with program teams and leadership to define and drive a strategic vision for instructional design across multiple programs. The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker and a champion for best practices in instructional design, using various methods to deliver a meaningful and effective rollout of training materials to product and service users. The role requires collaboration with experience and service design leaders, as well as cross-functional teams like visual designers, content strategists, and engineers. The candidate must be a self-starter capable of delivering effective and satisfying user experiences within a One-Team product mentality. This position is critical in ensuring that the training experience is comprehensive, consistent, and aligned with the overall goals of the organization. As a Lead Instructional Designer, you will be responsible for leading the strategy, design, and development of training materials, conducting research to inform decisions, and developing supplemental training materials such as micro-tutorials or job aids. You will also create and maintain eLearning modules, ensuring that all content is concise and effective, while maintaining organized repositories of instructional design materials and educational documents. Collaboration with cross-functional teams will be essential to define innovative training solutions and ensure that all decisions are data-driven and uphold high ethical standards.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with leadership to define a comprehensive training experience strategy and vision for educating users on products, ensuring consistency in quality and outcomes.
  • Lead the strategy, design, and development of training materials.
  • Conduct research to inform decisions, drive training requirements, and identify actionable enhancements in an environment of change.
  • Use design software (e.g., Figma, Mural) to develop computer-based training for both local and distant learning.
  • Work with Change Management Subject Matter Experts to understand and implement training needs for a diverse user community.
  • Develop supplemental training materials such as micro-tutorials or job aids.
  • Create and maintain eLearning modules, resources, and tools, ensuring concise and effective content.
  • Maintain highly organized repositories of instructional design materials and educational documents.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (product managers, designers, engineers, stakeholders) to define innovative training solutions.
  • Ensure decisions are data-driven and maintain high ethical standards.

Requirements

  • US citizen or authorized to work in the US, with residency for at least 3 of the last 5 years. Must be able to obtain Public Trust Clearance.
  • 4-year college degree or equivalent experience in developing and updating training and educational materials.
  • 3+ years of experience conducting research using various methods to deliver instructional outcomes.
  • Proven experience leading the development of training materials in a dynamic environment.
  • Deep instructional design acumen with a deep understanding of systems design and user interaction.
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of engaging and influencing stakeholders at all levels.
  • Good presentation skills with the ability to tell the story of your strategy and instructional solutions.
  • Experience working within the agile lifecycle is a plus.
  • Familiarity with design and agile tools such as Figma, FigJam, Mural, Dovetail, Qualtrics, Confluence, and Jira is a plus.
  • Experience working on federal government contracts is a plus.
