About the position
The Lead Instructor for Adult Education at Northeast State Community College is responsible for creating an educational environment that enables adult students to earn their high school equivalency diploma and improve their basic skills across various subjects. This role involves planning and teaching classes, monitoring instructional activities, and assisting with administrative duties to ensure program success.
Responsibilities
- Plan, teach, and evaluate student work
- Remain current with curriculum changes as set by the Tennessee Division of Adult Education (DAE)
- Implement and monitor classroom instructional activities to engage students in meaningful learning
- Assist in assessing curricular needs and provide training for changes
- Conduct and monitor Adult Education Orientation and Testing using TABE, CASAS, and Official Practice Tests
- Ensure effective record-keeping procedures are maintained through the CMA TS program
- Promote a positive learning environment to encourage student engagement
- Model professional and ethical standards in interactions with students and staff
- Meet performance goals in courses and assist others in achieving program-wide goals
- Assist in administrative duties and scheduling courses
- Identify, select, and modify instructional resources to meet student needs
- Provide supervision of classes at off-site locations
- Coordinate opportunities for dual-enrollment in postsecondary education or training programs
- Participate in local and state activities/staff development
- Complete other assignments as directed by supervision
Requirements
- One (1) year of teaching experience in secondary (9 - 12), post-secondary, or adult education programs
Nice-to-haves
- Active Teacher's License
- Experience in Adult Education
- Experience with Jobs4TN or a Data Management System
- Experience with grading and interpreting TABE/OPT scores
- Experience with ESL programs
- Conversational ability or fluency in a second language
