As a Lead Instrumentation and Controls Engineer in Cincinnati, Ohio, you will play a pivotal role in projects that are central to our clients' operations. This position offers the opportunity to work on cutting-edge industrial and commercial facilities, where you will be responsible for ensuring the technical quality and adherence to schedules for complex engineering tasks. You will gain a deep understanding of client expectations, project scope, budget, and timelines, which will be crucial in delivering successful outcomes. In this role, you will provide on-site support during the startup phase of projects, coordinating activities with other team members and the discipline lead. Your work will involve producing designs for electrical circuits and panels, utilizing control applications, and developing control systems for various processes. You will also explore options and optimizations for all aspects of process control, instrumentation, and automation. A key aspect of your role will be mentoring junior engineers, helping them to discover their passions and guiding their professional development. We are looking for someone who is not only technically proficient but also possesses strong organizational skills and the ability to collaborate effectively within a multi-disciplinary team. Responsibilities

  • Accountable for schedule and technical quality of engineering tasks.
  • Provide on-site assistance during startup phases of projects.
  • Coordinate work activities with other staff members and the discipline lead.
  • Produce designs for electrical circuits and panels utilizing control applications.
  • Develop control systems for a variety of processes.
  • Explore options and optimizations for process control, instrumentation, and automation.
  • Mentor junior professionals and guide their development.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or chemical engineering from an accredited university or college.
  • 15+ years of experience as an instrumentation and control design engineer for industrial private-sector clients, preferably in pharmaceutical, biotechnology, chemical, food products, or petrochemical industries.
  • Experience in design, testing, and startup of industrial process automation systems.
  • Experience with industrial process control networking including Fieldbus technologies.
  • Knowledge of UL508A requirements for industrial control panels.
  • Strong analytical, conceptual, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to effectively interface with all levels of personnel and management.
  • Ability to work and thrive in a team environment.
  • Ability to self-motivate and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Knowledge of Piping & Instrument Diagram Development (P&ID) including ANSI/ISA S5.1 symbology.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

Nice-to-haves

  • Working knowledge of PLC, DCS, and other controls applications.
  • Professional Engineer Registration (PE) required.
  • Strong communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Forward thinking, eager to learn best practices, and contribute innovative ideas.
  • Ability to collaborate and work effectively in a variety of teams, including multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Knowledge of control valves including valve sizing.
  • Experience leading plant design activities as an area/system leader.
  • Successful experience working with and managing remote domestic and international staff.
  • Ability to work with Engineers/Designers in Revit/BIM environment along with AutoCAD P&ID software.
