About the position

As a Lead Instrumentation & Control Engineer at Honeywell, you will play a pivotal role in driving the success of our projects within the global refining, gas processing, and petrochemical industries. You will be responsible for ensuring that all assigned project work meets budgeted hours, planned schedules, and the agreed-upon level of quality. This position requires effective communication with project managers regarding any necessary changes to budget, schedule, or quality levels, as well as providing updates on the progress of assigned projects. Staying current with technology developments in the instrumentation and systems control area is essential to maintain our competitive edge. Your responsibilities will include interfacing with customers to determine their project instrumentation and control system requirements, producing a comprehensive definition of instrument requirements that incorporates applicable codes and customer specifications, and modifying and reviewing P&IDs. You will prepare detailed designs for instruments and controls, which will include instrument specifications and requisitions, control system schematics, loop diagrams, logic diagrams, and control system narratives. Evaluating supplier bids for the instrument portion and participating in the supplier selection process will also be part of your duties. Additionally, you will review control system designs for compliance with customer requirements and applicable codes, coordinate with fabricators during the fabrication phase, and inspect control system equipment and site construction to ensure conformance with project requirements. Analyzing and recommending solutions to technical problems in control system functionality will be crucial, as will communicating key decisions made on projects to relevant stakeholders. A strong ability to program and troubleshoot Programmable Logic Controllers is also required for this role.

Responsibilities

  • Preparing instrument/controls detail design including instrument specifications and requisitions, control system schematics, loop diagrams, logic diagrams, and control system narratives.
  • Evaluating the instrument portion of supplier bids and participating in the supplier selection process.
  • Reviewing the control system design for conformance with customer requirements and applicable codes, and identifying inconsistencies.
  • Coordinating with the fabricator throughout the fabrication phase of the project on instrument-and-control system issues.
  • Inspecting control system equipment and fabrication for conformance with project requirements and applicable codes.
  • Inspecting control system site construction for conformance with project requirements and applicable codes.
  • Analyzing and recommending solutions to technical problems in the control system functionality.
  • Communicating key decisions made on projects to others.
  • Ability to program and troubleshoot Programmable Logic Controllers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in a technical discipline such as the sciences, technology, engineering or mathematics.
  • 10+ Years of relevant experience in process/project, operations, or plant instrumentation and controls.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelors Degree in Chemical Engineering OR Electrical Engineering.
  • The ability to take ownership of a technology and drive the work process.
  • Experience with process instrumentation design and application.
  • Oil / refinery or petrochemical industry experience is preferred, but will consider power / energy, food, or other chemical processing experience.
  • Knowledgeable of UL/NFPA/IEC/NEC/API/PIP/ISA.
  • Plant commissioning experience.
  • An understanding of engineering principles and mathematics.
  • Project management skill.
