About the position

As a Lead Instrumentation & Controls Engineer at Sargent & Lundy, you will play a pivotal role in the advancement of nuclear power technology, which is a crucial component of carbon-free energy generation. This position is fully remote, allowing you to work from home while contributing to significant projects that involve the digitization of existing power plants and the development of new nuclear facilities, including small modular reactors (SMRs). You will be responsible for leading complex programs that focus on design, operational excellence, safety, maintenance, and project management within the nuclear power sector. In this role, you will direct technical decision-making within a collaborative project team environment, working alongside other engineers and designers. Your primary focus will be on the design, modification, and analysis of power plant control systems, particularly in the context of digital upgrades. You will tackle challenging assignments that require you to investigate, troubleshoot, and resolve a variety of instrumentation and controls engineering issues. Your expertise will be essential in coordinating systems design activities to ensure compliance with specifications, codes, and client requirements. You will also engage in Digital Systems Design Development, which includes working with PLCs, DCS, HSI, networked computer systems, and digital instrumentation and control systems. Your role will involve performing consulting-level work for digital IoT innovations and strategic first-of-a-kind (FOAK) projects tailored for the nuclear industry. Additionally, you will prepare and review detailed calculations for analog and digital controls applications, ensuring accuracy in scaling, uncertainty, and setpoint calculations. Documentation is a key aspect of this position; you will prepare design input documentation for drawing production, including master diagrams and schematics. You will interface with vendors to review materials and equipment purchase specifications, and prepare reports that present technical information clearly to meet client requirements. Your responsibilities will also include conducting independent reviews of work performed by others, attending client meetings, and participating in site walkdowns to validate project scope and ensure client satisfaction. Furthermore, you will support station outage activities as needed, contributing to the overall success of the projects you are involved in.
