About the position

As a Lead Instrumentation & Controls Engineer at Sargent & Lundy, you will play a pivotal role in the advancement of nuclear power technology, which is a crucial component of carbon-free energy generation. This position is designed for professionals who are eager to engage in complex engineering projects that focus on the design, operational excellence, safety, maintenance, and project management of nuclear power plants. You will be part of a dynamic team that is responsible for the digitization of existing power plants and the development of new nuclear facilities, including small modular reactors (SMR). Your expertise will be essential in directing technical decision-making processes within a collaborative project team environment, working alongside other engineers and designers to enhance the design, modification, and analysis of power plant control systems, particularly through digital upgrades. In this role, you will tackle challenging assignments that require you to investigate, troubleshoot, and resolve a diverse range of instrumentation and controls engineering issues. You will coordinate systems design activities to ensure that installations and operations adhere to specifications, codes, and client requirements. Your responsibilities will also include performing Digital Systems Design Development, which encompasses PLC, DCS, HSI, networked computer systems, and digital instrumentation and control systems functional requirements for nuclear plant systems. You will work collaboratively on quality assessments and critical digital reviews, ensuring that all engineering outputs meet the highest standards. Additionally, you will prepare and review detailed calculations, including scaling, uncertainty, and setpoint calculations for both analog and digital controls applications. Your role will involve preparing documentation for design input for drawing production, including master diagrams and schematics, and interfacing with vendors to prepare and review materials and equipment purchase specifications. You will be responsible for preparing reports and studies that present technical information clearly and concisely to meet client requirements, as well as performing independent reviews of work conducted by others, including calculations and drawing preparation. Client engagement is a key aspect of this position, as you will attend meetings and site walkdowns to validate project scope and ensure client satisfaction. Furthermore, you will support station outage activities as required, contributing to the overall success of the projects you are involved in.
