About the position

As a Lead Instrumentation & Controls Engineer at Sargent & Lundy, you will play a pivotal role in the advancement of nuclear power, a vital carbon-free energy source. This position is designed for professionals who are eager to engage in the digitization of existing power plants and the development of new nuclear power facilities, including small modular reactors (SMR). You will be part of a dynamic Instrumentation and Controls Engineering group that is expanding its capabilities to meet the growing demands of the industry. Your work will involve leading major process controls engineering projects that encompass a variety of critical areas such as design, operational excellence, safety, maintenance, and project management. In this role, you will have the opportunity to direct technical decision-making within a collaborative project team environment. You will work alongside other engineers and designers who are focused on the design, modification, and analysis of both new and existing power plant control systems, with a particular emphasis on digital upgrades. The assignments you undertake will be challenging and will require you to investigate, troubleshoot, and resolve a wide range of instrumentation and controls engineering issues. You will coordinate systems design activities to ensure that installations and operations comply with all relevant specifications, codes, and client requirements. Your responsibilities will also include performing Digital Systems Design Development, which encompasses PLC, DCS, HSI, networked computer systems, and digital instrumentation and control systems functional requirements for nuclear plant systems. You will collaborate on quality assessments and critical digital reviews, ensuring that all projects meet the highest standards of quality and safety. Additionally, you will prepare and review detailed calculations, including scaling, uncertainty, and setpoint calculations for both analog and digital controls applications. Your role will involve preparing documentation for design input for drawing production, including master diagrams and schematics, and interfacing with vendors to prepare and review materials and equipment purchase specifications. You will be responsible for preparing reports and studies that present technical information clearly and concisely to meet client requirements. Independent reviews of work performed by others, including calculations and drawing preparation, will also be part of your duties. Furthermore, you will attend client meetings and site walkdowns to validate project scope and ensure client satisfaction. Supporting station outage activities as required will round out your responsibilities in this critical role.
