The Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) Engineering Supervisor is a hands-on, full-time position responsible for managing a team of five (5) to ten (10) I&C Engineers involved in the design of new upstream and midstream oil and gas facilities, power plants, and other industrial facilities. This role requires a comprehensive understanding of instrumentation and controls engineering, as well as the ability to lead and mentor a team effectively. The supervisor will be tasked with developing P&ID, I/O Lists, Control Panel Design, C&E development, Control Narrative, Network Architecture, Cable Schedule, Location Plans, and preparation of specifications for the procurement of instrumentation and controls equipment and related installation services. In addition to technical responsibilities, the supervisor will participate in Process Hazard Analysis and Design Reviews, ensuring that all deliverables meet quality assurance (QA) and quality control (QC) standards. The role involves direct oversight of team members, including hiring, training, mentoring, conducting performance reviews, and managing performance improvements. The supervisor will also coordinate with other supervisors and directors to resource projects, contribute to business development and proposals, assist with recruiting and interviewing, and create/revise department standards. The position requires effective communication with client representatives to address questions related to the Instrumentation & Controls design. The supervisor will analyze resource needs, organize and allocate resources, and understand department budgeting tools for manpower planning. Regular reviews of project budgets and schedules will be necessary, along with tracking and approving paid time off (PTO). The supervisor will facilitate weekly team meetings and participate in department meetings, providing mentoring and training to enhance the skills of the engineering team. Travel to client and vendor offices for design reviews and to plant site locations for construction coordination and field verification of designs is also a requirement. Overall, this position is critical for ensuring the successful execution of instrumentation and controls projects, fostering a collaborative team environment, and maintaining high standards of engineering excellence.
