About the position

The Lead Integration Engineer at Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) plays a crucial role in designing and implementing robust, scalable, and efficient integration solutions that enhance the functionality and performance of the organization’s technology systems. This position is situated within the Enterprise Systems department, which provides support and custom development for internal-facing enterprise platforms. The Lead Integration Engineer will work closely with cross-functional teams to understand business requirements, evaluate existing systems, and create detailed design documents that facilitate seamless integrations. The goal is to improve data flow, reduce manual work, and ensure high trust in data communications between people and systems. In this role, the Lead Integration Engineer will be responsible for assessing existing systems and identifying integration opportunities and challenges. They will design and architect integration solutions that align with Enterprise Architecture requirements while ensuring scalability, reliability, and security. A significant aspect of this position involves writing code to implement the designed integrations, adhering to secure software development practices. Collaboration with Tech Strategy and Enterprise Architecture is essential to develop integration strategies and best practices that guide implementation efforts. The Lead Integration Engineer will also engage with business stakeholders to deliver integration projects from inception to deployment, ensuring alignment with business objectives. They will monitor project progress, identify risks, and provide regular updates to stakeholders. Additionally, the role requires a proactive approach to identifying opportunities for process optimization and innovation within the integration delivery process. Staying updated on emerging technologies and industry trends is vital to ensure that the integration solutions remain effective and relevant.

Responsibilities

  • Understand core stakeholder business workflows and translate these into effective integration designs to improve data flow and reduce manual work.
  • Assess existing systems, applications, and infrastructure to identify integration opportunities and challenges.
  • Design and architect integration solutions that meet Enterprise Architecture requirements and standards and business needs while ensuring scalability, reliability / redundancy, and security.
  • Write code to implement scalable and optimized integrations designed, ensuring adherence to secure software development life cycle and best practices.
  • Collaborate with Tech Strategy and Enterprise Architecture to develop integration strategies, standards, and best practices to guide implementation efforts.
  • Work closely with QA to develop SIT strategies and test plans for all integration projects.
  • Collaborate with internal and external development teams to implement integration solutions, providing guidance and oversight throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Conduct performance testing, troubleshooting, and optimization of integration solutions to ensure optimal system performance.
  • Stay updated on emerging technologies, industry trends, and best practices in integration architecture and design.
  • Monitor project progress and identify risks or issues that may impact delivery timelines or outcomes and work collaboratively to resolve issues.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Five years of strong experience in system integration architecture, design, and implementation.
  • Proficiency in designing and implementing integration solutions using technologies such as APIs, RESTful services, messaging queues, ETL tools, and middleware platforms.
  • Solid understanding of enterprise integration patterns and best practices.
  • Experience with cloud-based integration platforms such as MuleSoft, Boomi, or Azure Integration Services.
  • Proficient in programming languages such as Python, JavaScript or Java.
  • Familiarity with database systems, data modeling, and SQL.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex integration issues.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions and architectural designs.
  • Experience with Agile methodologies and DevOps practices is a plus.
  • Relevant certifications such as Certified Integration Architect (CIA) or equivalent are desirable.
