About the position

The Lead Interior Designer at Canoo Technologies is responsible for leading a team of interior designers to create innovative design proposals for electric vehicles. This role involves collaborating with engineering teams to ensure design specifications are met, managing the design process from concept to production, and presenting design strategies to executives. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in automotive design and a passion for sustainable mobility.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of interior/industrial designers
• Develop proposals for both production and concept vehicles using 2D sketching, 3D modeling, and 3D rendering abilities
• Interact collaboratively across many different departments and functions
• Perform benchmarking of competitive vehicles/products
• Research product/industrial design, material, and future mobility trends
• Present strategies, vision, and innovation to executives
• Work closely with studio engineering to bring designs into production
• Support CAS and clay 3D modelers with clear and representative drawings/renderings
• Work efficiently and creatively on multiple programs at once
• Incorporate criteria to meet engineering and manufacturing requirements for design execution
• Communicate design ideas clearly and comfortably to the team

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in industrial/transportation/automotive design
• 10+ years' experience in OEM or startup automotive design studios
• Highly capable with Autodesk Alias, Blender, and Keyshot
• Experience overseeing the development of components/vehicles from initial designs to final production
• Ability to create compelling presentations
• Proficient in Adobe Suite and Microsoft Office suites

• Strong written and oral communication and presentation skills
• Experience in bringing a range of people into the research and design process
• Preparation of presentations for upper management
• Basic knowledge of Quality Management Systems and Environmental Management Systems
