About the position

The Lead Java Developer will play a pivotal role in leading a team of software engineers to develop innovative software solutions for healthcare organizations. This position requires a strong technical background in Java, APIs, and Angular, along with experience in cloud environments like Microsoft Azure or AWS. The role emphasizes collaboration with cross-functional teams, mentoring junior developers, and ensuring high-quality software delivery while adhering to best practices in security and performance.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical guidance on architecture, design patterns, and best practices
• Collaborate with product managers to define technical roadmaps and sprint planning
• Write, test and deploy reliable Java and database code for scale
• Lead the design, implementation, and maintenance of scalable and secure APIs using Java
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather requirements and ensure API functionality meets business needs
• Conduct and oversee thorough testing and debugging of APIs to ensure high performance and reliability
• Guide the development of responsive and intuitive frontend applications using Angular
• Manage and mentor a team of 3-5 software engineers; facilitate team meetings and foster a collaborative team culture
• Oversee code reviews and ensure code quality standards are met
• Collaborate with UX/UI designers to create visually appealing and user-friendly interfaces
• Ensure a seamless and engaging user experience across various devices
• Apply and share extensive knowledge of the healthcare industry to design and develop solutions that address unique challenges and requirements
• Utilize expertise in cloud environments, particularly Microsoft Azure or AWS, to lead deployment, management, and optimization of software solutions
• Implement and enforce best practices for security, scalability, and performance in the cloud environment
• Conduct regular 1:1s and performance reviews for team members
• Identify areas for process improvement and implement solutions
• Assist with hiring and onboarding of new team members
• Stay informed about healthcare industry tech trends, regulations, and best practices to contribute valuable insights to the team
• Balance workload across the team and manage project timelines

Requirements

• 5 years of experience in a technical leadership or mentorship role
• Minimum of 7 years of professional experience in API and frontend development, preferably in a startup or entrepreneurial environment with revenues over $20Million
• Strong proficiency in Java for API development (Springboot, JHipster)
• Experience in frontend development using Angular or similar framework (React, Vue, etc.)
• Substantial background in the healthcare industry
• Extensive experience with cloud environments, preferably Microsoft Azure or AWS
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
• Proven ability to mentor junior developers and drive technical initiatives
• Proven experience and ability to debug software applications
• Proven experience working with product management teams using Agile and other SDLCs
• Excellent communication, leadership, and team management skills
