About The Position

The Lead Mail Handler at Central Connecticut State University is responsible for overseeing the operations of the Mail Room, ensuring efficient processing of mail and packages for the campus community. This role includes managing student workers, handling financial aspects of mailing, and providing excellent customer service. The position requires coordination of workflow, scheduling, and maintaining procedures to support the high volume of mail processed daily.

Requirements

  • Three years of experience in a mail service or postal operation
  • Knowledge of U.S. Postal Service regulations, rates, and classes of mail
  • Interpersonal skills

  • Supervisory ability

Responsibilities

  • Ensure continuity of Mail Room operations
  • Oversee student workers in two mail room locations
  • Schedule operations for both mail room locations
  • Handle financial aspects of the mailing process
  • Sort incoming mail for resident students
  • Provide support to the campus community
  • Plan mail service unit workflow and determine priorities
  • Establish and maintain mail service unit procedures
  • Conduct staff training and performance evaluations
  • Act as liaison with operating units and outside officials
  • Prepare reports and correspondence
  • Operate and adjust postage metering machines
  • Perform minor repairs and set up equipment
  • Participate in the operation of mail service including pick-up and delivery of mail
  • Maintain and order supplies
