About the position

The Lead Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for overseeing and scheduling the daily functions of all assigned Maintenance Mechanics at Advocate Trinity Hospital. This role involves establishing and improving standard operating policies and procedures for building facilities and equipment, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, and providing a safe environment for patients and staff. The Lead Maintenance Mechanic will also collaborate with management on various operational aspects, including hiring, training, and performance evaluations.

Responsibilities

  • Provides effective supervision and management of the associates assigned to the Facilities Department.
  • Actively participates as a member of the Utilities Management Sub-Committee and/or EOC Fire Prevention Committee and supports the utility management plan.
  • Collaborates with the department manager on establishing goals and quality standards for the facilities department.
  • Establishes work schedules to ensure proper coverage and provides guidance on contractor use.
  • Approves overtime and edits time cards accordingly.
  • Prioritizes and schedules associates for maintenance tasks.
  • Leads the onboarding process for the facilities team.
  • Inspects work to ensure it meets quality standards and provides performance feedback.
  • Manages the annual operating budget and five-year infrastructure capital plan.
  • Oversees administrative actions required of the assigned team.
  • Implements and improves standard operating procedures for building facilities and equipment.
  • Ensures timely response to building occupant requests and manages maintenance requests.
  • Responds to alarms and optimizes operations using trending reports.
  • Maintains accurate records and reports for equipment and maintenance activities.
  • Establishes emergency procedures and trains associates accordingly.
  • Implements preventive maintenance programs and ensures compliance with deadlines.
  • Documents actions taken by facilities associates and vendors in the CMMS.
  • Inspects completed work for quality and identifies significant problems for management.
  • Supervises general building maintenance and repairs, including vendor work.
  • Troubleshoots equipment problems and coordinates utility outages.
  • Ensures compliance with safety and infection control procedures.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma PLUS 8+ years of maintenance and/or construction experience in a large healthcare, hotel, institutional, or manufacturing facility.
  • Demonstrated competency in facilities maintenance areas, with proficiency in at least one area such as general maintenance, plumbing, or electrical maintenance.
  • Ability to prioritize, assign, and inspect work to meet high quality standards.
  • Ability to read and interpret building blueprints and equipment schematics.
  • Certified Healthcare Facilities Manager (CHFM) certification.
  • Valid State of Illinois Drivers License.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
  • Knowledge of National Fire Codes and regulatory compliance.
