About the position

Reynolds American is seeking a Lead Manager for International Payroll to oversee and manage end-to-end payroll operations across multiple countries. This role is crucial in ensuring accurate and compliant payroll processing while maintaining payroll data integrity. The Lead Manager will coordinate with internal teams, such as Global Mobility, and external vendors like Ernst & Young, to facilitate seamless payroll delivery. The position is based in Winston-Salem, NC, and reports to the Senior Manager of Payroll. In this role, the Lead Manager will be responsible for preparing monthly payroll for International Assignees in the US and semi-monthly payroll for Canadian employees. This includes reviewing and validating data imports to ensure they align with individual arrangements, resolving discrepancies, and maintaining a strong understanding of global payroll regulations and tax laws. The Lead Manager will also collaborate with local payroll teams and HR to ensure compliance with company policies and industry regulations. The position requires the ability to navigate complex payroll scenarios, communicate effectively with international employees regarding pay inquiries, and lead meetings with external partners to ensure compliance and best practices. Additionally, the Lead Manager will coordinate year-end payroll processes, conduct periodic payroll audits, and continually seek opportunities to improve efficiencies and employee satisfaction.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage end-to-end international payroll operations across multiple countries.
  • Ensure accurate and compliant payroll processing and maintain payroll data integrity.
  • Coordinate with internal teams and external vendors for seamless payroll delivery.
  • Prepare monthly US payroll for International Assignees and semi-monthly Canadian payroll.
  • Review and validate data imports for expected pay components that align with individual arrangements.
  • Resolve discrepancies in payroll data in a timely manner.
  • Stay updated with global payroll regulations, tax laws, and compliance requirements.
  • Collaborate with local payroll teams and HR to ensure compliance with company policies and regulations.
  • Review assignee statements and ensure proper payroll entries, including gross up calculations and shadow payroll entries.
  • Partner with the Compensation team to ensure proper tax treatment of equity transactions for expatriates/inpatriates.
  • Communicate with international employees regarding pay statement inquiries and gross to net calculations.
  • Lead recurring meetings with Ernst & Young to ensure compliance and best practices are followed.
  • Coordinate year-end payroll processes, including W-2 reconciliations and amendments.
  • Investigate and respond to tax jurisdiction notifications.
  • Track and update International Assignee tracker for payments and refunds from tax agencies.
  • Conduct periodic payroll audits to ensure data accuracy and resolve payroll-related issues.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years of experience in a corporate global payroll environment with multi-country operations.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, including VLOOKUP, XLOOKUP, and pivot tables.
  • Experience with SAP Payroll (Employee Central Payroll) preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for collaboration with outside accounting firms and employees.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience; Payroll certification (FPC or CPP) desirable.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Consistent record of continuous process improvement.
