About the position

Eaton's ES AMER ESS division is currently seeking a Lead Manufacturing Engineer based out of our Greenwood, SC location. This role is pivotal in providing day-to-day support to the manufacturing team while also engaging in longer-term strategic planning and project management. The Lead Manufacturing Engineer will be responsible for researching and identifying potential process and automation improvements, prioritizing department opportunities, and ensuring that the manufacturing processes align with the company's goals for safety, quality, productivity, and cost reduction. In this role, the Lead Manufacturing Engineer will lead efforts to proactively identify and implement process and factory automation improvements. This includes developing design specifications, programs, simulations, and test processes for factory automation. The engineer will also provide start-up assistance for automation and control systems design in a manufacturing environment, ensuring that all systems are operational and efficient. The position requires a strong focus on troubleshooting for assembly, material, tooling, or engineering concerns, providing essential support to the manufacturing team. The Lead Manufacturing Engineer will also be tasked with developing or purchasing manufacturing equipment, fixtures, and tooling, as well as managing capital spend projects for production equipment from inception through to integration and operation. Collaboration is key in this role, as the Lead Manufacturing Engineer will participate with multi-functional product development teams to ensure the manufacturability of new designs through the PROLaunch process and the Preventative Maintenance Optimization process. Analyzing equipment downtime to improve reliability and reduce maintenance costs is also a critical responsibility, along with assessing process capabilities and integrating new processes and equipment to maximize manufacturing throughput and velocity. Additionally, the engineer will identify resource needs for the plant and assist in preparing budgets and major appropriation requests, providing engineering support as required for maintenance departments, engineering, and product testing labs.

Responsibilities

  • Lead efforts to proactively identify process and factory automation improvements which deliver Safety, Quality, Productivity, and reduced Cost targets.
  • Drive factory automation through the development of design specifications, programs, simulations, and test processes.
  • Provide start-up assistance for automation and control systems design in a manufacturing environment.
  • Provide day to day support for the manufacturing team, including troubleshooting for assembly, material, tooling, or engineering concerns.
  • Develop or purchase manufacturing equipment, fixtures, and tooling.
  • Identify, design, justify, quote and implement Cost Reduction projects in line with change management process.
  • Manage capital spend projects for production equipment from inception and design to integration and run on.
  • Participate with multi-functional product development teams to ensure manufacturability of new designs through the PROLaunch process and Preventative Maintenance Optimization process.
  • Analyze equipment downtime to improve reliability and reduce maintenance costs.
  • Assess process capabilities, identify improvement opportunities and integrate new processes & equipment to maximize manufacturing throughput and velocity.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology from an accredited university.
  • 3+ years of engineering work experience in manufacturing.

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Industrial Engineering from an accredited university.
  • Proven experience in small capital projects as turnkey (design, equipment validation, in production, service support).
