About the position

The Lead Marketing Specialist at MTD is responsible for advancing the organization's brand and enhancing public engagement through various marketing and communications initiatives. This role involves leading projects, campaigns, and copywriting efforts that encompass both public-facing and internal communications. The specialist will develop content and collaborate with community partners to improve customer experiences, promote a positive perception of MTD, mobilize advocates, and raise public awareness about the benefits of public transit.

Responsibilities

  • Conceive, produce, and curate content for digital, print, outdoor, and on-board channels in support of established communications and marketing goals.
  • Support internal communications related to safety, service, and educational materials, specifically the production of a monthly internal newsletter.
  • Update and maintain information on MTD's public website; create and curate content for social media posts, email campaigns, presentations, promotions, etc.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts, project managers, and the Communication Design Specialist to write, design, and produce web pages, Pulse articles, social media posts, e-newsletters, video, infographics, and other content.
  • Monitor ongoing social and cultural conversations to identify and implement ‘real-time' opportunities to amplify MTD's voice and value, including buying and placing advertisements in outside media.
  • Coordinate and manage MTD's participation in public outreach events in the community, public schools, Parkland College, University of Illinois, and parades, ensuring educational materials and giveaways are available.
  • Manage MTD's external and internal surveys, including analysis of data and reporting to relevant stakeholders on the results.
  • Support Accessible Design Standards and receive ongoing accessibility training to ensure preservation of Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) initiatives.
  • Chair MTD's annual United Way Champaign County Combined Charities Campaign.
  • Increase MTD's exposure by developing cooperative partnerships, strategizing initiatives with the Advertising Specialist to support new and ongoing partnerships.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience in marketing, communications, public relations, graphic design, business, outreach, community engagement, or a related field is required.
  • A minimum of two years progressively responsible work experience, preferably in marketing, advertising, community engagement, outreach, event planning, or related setting, is required. Three or more years is preferred.
  • Proficient computer and software skills, including Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, and other current computer applications are required.
  • Experience in videography, video editing, social media, and photography is required.
  • Excellent written and public communications skills.
