About the position

The Lead Material Handler at Thermo Fisher Scientific plays a crucial role in the daily operations of the warehouse, ensuring the efficient distribution of products that contribute to global health and safety. This position involves leadership responsibilities, overseeing daily activities, and providing support to team members to meet productivity and quality objectives. The role is integral to the company's mission of making the world healthier, cleaner, and safer through effective material handling and distribution.

Responsibilities

  • Responsibility for the daily distribution activities, productivity, and quality within assigned department (receiving, picking, packing, shipping, inventory control).
  • Provide leadership and assistance with the daily operation of the department to meet all daily objectives.
  • Assist employees with exceptions and problem resolution to ensure accuracy within the department.
  • Coordinate with Supervisor to ensure that staffing levels are appropriate to meet department and launch time goals.
  • Organize and direct workflow for the department when supervisor is unavailable.
  • Provide instructions about standard operating procedures, material handling equipment and help in resolving problems.
  • Train temporary employees and new hires.
  • Assist the supervisor in maintaining a safe, injury-free work environment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • 2+ years of general warehouse experience, including work within several different warehouse departments
  • Leadership experience and desire is preferred
  • Experience handling hazardous materials (chemicals) is a plus
  • Experience with computers and scanning equipment preferred
  • Experience with powered industrial trucks (order pickers)
  • Ability to stand and move about the warehouse for significant periods of time (involving walking, stooping, bending, and reaching) required
  • Ability to maintain a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Desire to work within a team, but also able to work independently and solve problems quickly
  • Ability to read and write in English
  • Ability to lift, carry, and push up to 50 lbs

Nice-to-haves

  • Leadership experience and desire is preferred
