About the position

The Lead Mechanic/Asst. Shop Manager inspects, services, and maintains heavy-duty construction equipment. This role involves driving to job sites, inspecting engines and equipment, carrying out services, conducting repairs, and providing routine maintenance to the construction fleet. The Lead Mechanic/Asst. Shop Manager is responsible for ensuring that all equipment is functioning properly and safely, and for performing a variety of mechanical tasks as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Driving to the job site.
  • Inspecting trucks, excavators, bulldozers, and other heavy equipment for proper performance.
  • Diagnosing faults using computerized testing equipment.
  • Performing electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical repairs as well as preventative maintenance.
  • Adjusting equipment and replacing faulty parts.
  • Repairing damaged equipment parts.
  • Cleaning, lubricating, and conducting routine services on heavy-duty vehicles.
  • Performing major repair work when necessary.
  • Consulting with other mechanics.
  • Maintaining a clean and safe work area.
  • Reporting damaged or faulty equipment to management.

Requirements

  • Must have own tools.
  • Must have good knowledge and understanding of engine, hydraulics, electrical, fuel systems, and general mechanical repairs.
  • Minimum 10+ years of experience as a Lead Mechanic/Asst. Shop Manager.
  • Computer experience with machine software such as Cat ET and Mack Tech tool/Volvo Vcads and/or similar.
  • Must be able to understand written and verbal instructions and must be willing to adhere to plans and directives.
  • Applicants must have a good driving record.
