About the position

The Lead Mechanical Design Engineer will be part of Honeywell's Environments and Infrastructure (E&I) team, focusing on engineering custom mechanical systems to support laboratory experimentation. This role involves developing and designing architectures that manage heat and fluid flow in cryogenic environments, and creating integrated solutions with cryogenics as a key component. The engineer will collaborate with scientists and program management to establish technical roadmaps for projects.

Responsibilities

  • Engineering of custom mechanical systems to support laboratory experimentation
  • Developing and designing architectures involving heat and fluid flow in cryogenic environments
  • Design and development of integrated solutions with cryogenics being a key component
  • Partnering with scientists and program management on E&I technical roadmapping

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in a technical discipline such as the sciences, technology, engineering, or mathematics
  • 10+ years designing and developing custom mechanical systems

Nice-to-haves

  • Masters or above in Mechanical Engineering with 0-4 years of industry experience depending on educational background
  • Proven track record of working with systems investigating physical phenomena, particularly thermal fluids, multiphase fluids, and/or supercritical CO2
  • Proven track record of mechanical system design
  • Previous experience mentoring/leading teams and helping to build team skills
  • Experience developing and implementing test plans, with the ability to adapt to unexpected test conditions and experimental
  • Demonstrated ability to design, analyze, operate, build, and test complex systems
  • Demonstrated experience with modeling, simulation tools, and analytical techniques related to fluid dynamics (e.g., Matlab, Mathematica, COMSOL, Python, LabVIEW)
  • Current security clearance for work on government contracts
