About the position

The Mechanical Engineer position at Black & Veatch involves performing mechanical system design for water and wastewater projects, leading a team of engineers, and ensuring project execution aligns with scope, budget, and schedule. The role requires collaboration with equipment manufacturers and oversight of engineering work products, while also mentoring junior engineers and coordinating with various project stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Perform mechanical system design for water/wastewater projects.
  • Perform engineering calculations to develop equipment and system performance parameters for the purpose of sizing equipment.
  • Lead a team of mechanical engineers on moderately complex projects, ensuring project execution relative to scope, budget, and schedule.
  • Coordinate with equipment manufacturers to select the most technically acceptable design solutions.
  • Oversee the development of engineering work products including piping and instrumentation diagram (P&IDs) drawings, mechanical arrangement drawings, and equipment, piping, and valve specifications.
  • Review manufacturer's or contractor's submittals, data, reports, etc., for conformance with the contract design documents.
  • Lead and mentor junior mechanical engineers by assigning tasks, teaching skills, and reviewing progress.
  • Act as the Responsible Engineer for various mechanical systems or equipment.
  • Coordinate with other design disciplines and project stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from a recognized accredited program.
  • Minimum of 8 years related work experience.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license.
