About the position

X-energy is seeking a Lead Mechanical Engineer for the Xe-100 Reactor Cavity Cooling System (RCCS), a critical safety-related system within the Xe-100 Main Power Systems (MPS). This role involves providing management support and technical leadership for the development of the RCCS, directing the work of individual contributors, and ensuring the successful delivery of engineering work products through design, analysis, and testing phases.

Responsibilities

  • Support the execution of mechanical design, analysis, or evaluation of assigned projects using sound engineering principles.
  • Lead teams responsible for structural design, thermodynamic system analysis, thermal hydraulics, and mechanical design for advanced reactor plants.
  • Manage the utilization of engineering resources across multiple projects and ensure qualified engineers are performing assigned work.
  • Lead design cycle sprints and provide direction to ensure convergence of engineering efforts.
  • Influence and support the development of strategy, methodology, and technical tools for the area of responsibility.
  • Plan and perform analysis to assess aspects of the SSCs to ensure they meet technical specifications and design requirements.
  • Perform computations utilizing hand calculations and analytical tools for various engineering calculations.
  • Work within a multidisciplinary engineering team to create next-generation nuclear power plants.
  • Ensure thorough documentation of work and facilitate internal and external design reviews.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related discipline from an accredited university or college.
  • Typically seven years of engineering experience, with graduate degrees counting as two years of experience.
  • At least two years of nuclear industry experience in a regulated environment, including light water commercial nuclear reactors.
  • Experience in mechanical design, use of CAD and PLM software, and hardware ownership including manufacturing and testing oversight.
  • One year of hands-on experience developing and delivering hardware or manufacturing processes in a production environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with structural analysis hand calculations and structural FEA software programs (ANSYS, ABAQUS, etc.).
  • Knowledge of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analysis codes (STAR-CCM+, Fluent, etc.).
  • Experience with thermodynamics and 1D flow-solvers performing heat/energy and mass balance.
