About the position

The Lead Medical Records Technician (Office Automation) position at Naval Branch Health Clinic Mayport, FL, serves as the Medical Records Custodian. The role involves analyzing, coding, and processing medical records while ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. The work is performed in an office setting with standard 8-hour workdays.

Responsibilities

  • Analyzes, codes, and processes medical records and performs focused reviews as required.
  • Informs employees about policies, procedures, and practices of management as they relate to the work unit.
  • Provides information and assistance to inquiring individuals regarding medical records.
  • Retrieves medical and statistical information and prepares routine and special reports.
  • Provides counseling on basic regulations regarding the release of health information.

Requirements

  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service, including performing records work concerned with reviewing, analyzing, processing, and maintaining medical records.
  • Experience in compiling or extracting medical records data to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to code and analyze medical records and identify inaccurate entries and/or omissions.
  • Experience in releasing medical information in accordance with standard operating procedures and regulations.
  • Proficiency in using multiple office automation software for records management.

Nice-to-haves

  • Qualified typist with the ability to type 40 words per minute with three or fewer errors.
