About the position

The Lead Medical Support Assistant (MSA) at the Department of Veterans Affairs is responsible for overseeing daily operations within the medical support team, ensuring efficient workflow, and providing guidance and training to staff. This role involves complex administrative tasks related to patient care access, scheduling, and coordination across various healthcare settings, while maintaining high standards of patient service and safety.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and assign daily workload to MSA staff.
  • Provide input on staff performance and resolve workplace issues.
  • Ensure accurate and timely scheduling of patient appointments.
  • Conduct ongoing reviews to maintain quality of work.
  • Orient and train new and current employees on procedures and policies.
  • Act as a liaison between MSA staff and other healthcare providers to resolve conflicts.
  • Assist with clinic access contingency plans and adjust appointment schedules as needed.
  • Promote veteran registration for My HealtheVet and ensure proper collection of insurance information.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Six months of clerical or office experience, or one year above high school education, or a combination of both.
  • One year of experience equivalent to the GS-6 grade level in a medical support role.
