About the position

As a Lead Mental Health Counselor at Mary's Path, you will play a crucial role in providing mental health counseling and support to pregnant and parenting teenage moms in the foster care system. Your responsibilities will include facilitating rehabilitation groups, providing crisis intervention, and working closely with clients and their families to help them navigate their mental health challenges and achieve stability in their lives. You will be part of a treatment team, reporting to the Clinical Director, and will have the opportunity to make a significant impact on the lives of vulnerable youth.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, schedule and facilitate rehabilitation groups on topics including communication, coping, and life skills.
  • Provide support and guidance to mental health counselors.
  • Responsible for a team of up to 6 Mental Health Counselors.
  • Facilitate group and individual reflective supervision.
  • Meet with clients and caregivers several times a week to further treatment goals, including behavior management techniques.
  • Work with the treatment team to provide individualized service plans, such as counseling and case management services.
  • Assist clients in navigating systems to access needed services.
  • Advocate for clients' needs and preferences within the care team and other systems.
  • Support clients in making positive behavioral changes, developing problem-solving skills, and setting healthy boundaries.
  • Be an active member of the Child and Family Team.
  • Provide on-call coverage to clients and their families.
  • Maintain close communication with all treatment team members.
  • Participate in all treatment reviews, program staff meetings, and IEP meetings when necessary.
  • Assist with planning and providing transportation for school, therapy appointments, and court hearings as needed.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation, including progress notes, clinical forms, time sheets, and mileage.
  • Participate in weekly supervision with the program supervisor or designee.
  • Maintain professional behavior at all times, appropriately representing the agency's mission and philosophy.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a human service-related field preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years' experience providing rehabilitation services within an STRTP setting.
  • Adept at leading a team, directing and following up on work assignments and providing direct supervision.
  • Skilled in creatively developing and facilitating rehabilitation and life skills groups.
  • Adept at identifying the needs of residents and using trauma-informed practices.
  • Able to support mental health team with maximizing billing.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Adept at working with diverse populations and cultural competency, demonstrating a high level of emotional intelligence and situational adaptability.
  • Demonstrated strength in collaboration, empathy, resilience, situational adaptability, and valuing differences across diverse populations.
  • Able to engage with and build trust with diverse populations, and possess cultural competency.
  • Excellent at managing complexity, using good judgment and demonstrating proactivity.
  • Able to work flexible schedule with ability to work evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Able to respond to crisis situations and be part of a rotating emergency pager system.
  • Able to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Able to maintain confidentiality and use discretion.
  • High accountability and self-management.
  • Fingerprint clearances.
  • Has reliable vehicle, California driver's license and insurance.
