About the position

The Lead Network Engineer will be responsible for designing and implementing deployments that span Visa's private data center and public cloud environments with an emphasis on infrastructure as code network connectivity enablement for Visa's Google Cloud and Microsoft Azure public cloud presence. This role requires a hands-on individual with extensive knowledge in networking, automation, and infrastructure as code technology, including applicable public cloud processes, methodologies, standards, products, and frameworks. The ideal candidate will assist in defining the architecture, capturing functional requirements, preparing estimates, and developing technical solutions for Visa's foundational cloud services. This position offers the opportunity to combine architecture definition with hands-on development work, providing guidance to project teams on design and deployment-related activities. The successful candidate will collaborate with Operations and Infrastructure, Cybersecurity, and Product Development teams to define network solutions for hybrid cloud deployment solutions that meet the challenges of technology, regulatory, security, and competitive conditions. The Cloud Network Architect is expected to have demonstrated experience and interest in networking, public cloud, workload migration from private to public cloud, cloud-native design, and application transformation/modernization. Excellent communication skills and a positive attitude are essential for effectively sharing knowledge. The Lead Network Engineer provides senior technical leadership in several network architecture areas of expertise and is responsible for developing and executing new initiatives to drive growth, reduce costs, increase reliability, and enhance global synergy for Visa's networks. This role involves collaboration with other functional and technology leaders to define and execute business priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement deployments across Visa's private data center and public cloud environments.
  • Assist in defining the architecture and capturing functional requirements for cloud services.
  • Prepare estimates and develop technical solutions for foundational cloud services.
  • Provide guidance to project teams on design and deployment activities.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Infrastructure, Cybersecurity, and Product Development teams to define network solutions for hybrid cloud deployments.
  • Contribute to the network architecture strategy for Visa's Private/Hybrid/Public Cloud adoption.
  • Architect, design, and deliver innovative solutions for public cloud connectivity with Private DCs.
  • Develop standard automation templates for public cloud infrastructure deployment.
  • Use cloud-native approaches for solutions based on business goals and requirements.
  • Design security into all projects and processes throughout design, implementation, and operational stages.
  • Provide knowledge transfer to engineering and operations teams on architecture and design of public cloud solutions.
  • Drive software development for Visa's Infrastructure as Code (IAC) efforts across Private/Hybrid/Multi Cloud environments.
  • Influence enterprise technology selection and define High Level Design documentation for key technology initiatives.
  • Collaborate with network engineering, cyber security, and operations teams to recommend next-generation capabilities.
  • Drive coordination and execution to mitigate cyber risk issues and emerging threats.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor's Degree or at least 7 years of work experience with an Advanced degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 4 years of work experience with a PhD, OR 13+ years of relevant work experience.
  • Demonstrated experience with hands-on Infrastructure as Code (IaC) development and deployment in Hybrid Cloud (AWS, Azure, and GCP) deployments.
  • 4+ years' experience in cloud networking (public, private, and hybrid/multi-cloud) technologies, particularly in the context of AWS, Azure, and GCP.
  • 2+ years of proven experience with GCP and/or Azure including design and implementation of enterprise-level solutions.
  • Demonstrated experience with open-source infrastructure as code software and automation software development tools including Terraform, Terragrunt, env0, Ansible, Python, Chef, Puppet, or Salt.
  • A proven background in modern networking architecture practice including experience in network design/operations for campus, DC, and WAN environments.
  • Experience with networking tooling applications and networking ancillary services.
  • Experience with networking best practices, particularly networking security best practices, firewalling/VPN experience.
  • Expert knowledge of GCP and/or Azure cloud infrastructure and platform services.
  • 5+ years of experience in multiple public cloud providers including Azure, GCP, AWS.

  • 12 or more years of work experience with a Bachelor's Degree or 8-10 years of experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 6+ years of work experience with a PhD.
  • BS/MS in Computer Science, Computer or Electrical Engineering, Science, or Math.
  • Advanced certifications such as CCDE, CCIE/CCNP (R&S or SP/Security), AWS certified advanced networking, AWS certified solution architect, MS-Azure certified solutions architect.
