About the position

The Lead Network Engineer - Cloud Networking plays a crucial role in ensuring the stability and efficiency of the company's network infrastructure. This position involves partnering with the support team to identify, prioritize, and resolve critical network-related issues that impact business operations. The engineer is expected to proactively communicate solutions to network-related problems and recommend emerging technologies that can enhance the overall health of the company network. The Senior Network Engineer will develop and evaluate network performance criteria and measurement methods, preparing analyses for both short-term and long-term capacity needs related to switching, routing, transmission, and signaling. In addition to conducting network architecture design and feasibility studies, the Lead Network Engineer will develop alternative routing scenarios and assess the impact of economic and population growth on network capacity and development plans. This role requires influencing departmental strategy and making decisions on moderately complex to complex issues regarding the technical approach for project components, with considerable latitude in determining objectives and approaches to assignments. The Lead Network Engineer will also serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in one or more routing, switching, and wireless technologies, while performing the duties of a Senior Network Engineer. Some travel is required for this position.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as Subject Matter Expert on Azure Networking technologies
  • Collaborate with technical teams to maintain hardware and software infrastructure with the latest firmware and software requirements
  • Ensure the highest branch availability with the core network
  • Manage basic and expedited support to resolve all networking-related issues
  • Troubleshoot and resolve expedited issues impacting customer challenges and needs
  • Proactively communicate the status, plan of action(s), and resolution(s) of issues
  • Monitor and report the performance of network components against KPIs and take preemptive measures to minimize interruptions
  • Identify opportunities and recommend solutions for improving overall network health
  • Evaluate new technologies and platforms for business applicability
  • Create and configure new VPNs, site additions, and other connectivity internal/external to the network
  • Lead complex network projects
  • Demonstrate familiarity with Cloud, Data Center, and LAN/WAN/WLAN infrastructures
  • Exhibit expert understanding of BGP, OSPF, and TCP/IP
  • Utilize strong troubleshooting skills to resolve network problems

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a closely related field
  • 8-10 years of hands-on data internetworking experience as a Senior Network Engineer
  • Experience in design specification development, data communications security, and privacy techniques
  • Knowledge of security processes, regulations, codes, ordinances, and terminology
  • Expert level experience with Azure networking
  • 10+ years of experience with WAN and LAN networks including planning, design, procurement, and implementation
  • 10+ years of experience with Cisco Switches (93xx, 45xx, 65xx, Nexus, and cloud-managed switch solutions)
  • 10+ years using routing protocols on Cisco routers and layer 3 switches including OSPF, EIGRP, and BGP
  • 10+ years of experience with Layer 2 Protocols: VLANs, VTP, LACP, PAGP, and Spanning Tree (STP)
  • 10+ years of experience with Network Services Protocols: VSS, WCCP, ACLs, Policy Based Routing (PBR)
  • Experience with modern data center protocols including Nexus VPC and OTV
  • Ability to support and mentor Junior staff members, Helpdesk, and NOC analysts
  • Applied working knowledge of ITIL change management and service design
  • Strong problem-solving skills and network design experience
  • Experience with network automation using DNA Center, Ansible, or other tools
  • Experience in network monitoring including SNMP, ICMP, IP SLA, Syslog
  • Experience with monitoring tools: SolarWinds, Netbrain, Live Action, Thousand Eyes
  • Experience in SSL and IP Sec VPN technology, design, and best practices around 2FA
  • Ability to communicate effectively with management, staff, and equipment vendors
  • Ability to analyze specifications and design documents
  • Ability to create standard operating procedures (SOPs/MOPs)
  • Excellent leadership and mentoring skills
  • High level problem-solving and communication skills
  • Ability to work well in a team setting as well as independently with minimal direction
  • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for all implemented networks
  • Perform preventative maintenance on layer 2/3 devices
  • May require participation in a 24x7 on-call rotation
