About the position

The Lead Network Engineer will oversee the implementation and management of Cisco technologies related to WLAN controllers, access points, routers, and switches. This role is crucial for ensuring that all security policies and mandates are adhered to, while also maintaining optimal network performance and reliability. The engineer will be responsible for designing and supporting LAN/WAN and wireless networks, ensuring compliance with service level agreements (SLAs), and providing after-hours support for outages and system updates.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as Lead Engineer focused on Cisco technologies related to WLAN controllers, access points, routers, and switches.
  • Ensure all security policies and mandates are met and implemented correctly on network devices.
  • Implement best practices and deploy new technologies to meet agency needs.
  • Maintain software levels and manage global configurations of network devices.
  • Ensure the network operates within all SLAs defined by vendors or government agencies.
  • Design, organize, modify, install, and support LAN/WAN and Wireless networks.
  • Provide after-hours on-call support for outages and system updates.

Requirements

  • 10 years' experience in network engineering, with at least 3 years in a lead role, and a Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field, or 15+ years of experience with 3 years as a Lead.
  • Extensive experience in Cisco-based Routing, Switching, Unified Communications, Network Monitoring, and Security.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • Active certifications: CCNA, CCNP, CCNP Voice, CCNP Data, CCNP Wireless, CWSP, CWNA, Aruba Certified Mobility Expert, Aruba Certified Design Expert.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Voice over IP and Multi-Protocol Labeling Switched Networks (MPLS).
  • Familiarity with wired cat 5 and 6 LANs and wireless LANs.
  • Unix and Windows system administration skills for network management platforms.
  • Knowledge of load balancers (F5) and protocol analyzers.
  • Experience with Cisco Unified Communication Manager and Cisco Unity Connection.
  • Familiarity with SQL and scripting languages like Perl.
