About the position

As a Lead Network Engineer at Lumen Technologies, you will play a pivotal role in interacting with our financial services clients and collaborating with Lumen's engineering teams to architect, engineer, and implement network technology solutions tailored to the needs of the financial industry. This position requires a proven track record of delivering network technology solutions to various financial institutions, showcasing your ability to apply advanced engineering principles and network concepts to solve complex problems. You will also be responsible for driving vendor requirements, resolving bug fixes, and managing code upgrades and vendor development as necessary. Your role will involve working closely with cross-functional teams and vendors to ensure interoperability and validation of features, functions, and behaviors of network solutions. In this position, you will be recognized as a subject matter expert and may take on the role of a technical project lead, providing guidance and leadership to lower-level employees. It is essential that you are self-motivated, possess strong problem-solving capabilities, and demonstrate a sense of urgency and accountability in your work. The role is hybrid, requiring you to be onsite at the customer location once a week, primarily serving the NY, NJ, and CT markets. Your responsibilities will include architecting, designing, implementing, and troubleshooting diverse multi-protocol networks specifically for the financial industry, with a focus on financial trading networks, including market data and ultra-low-latency trading networks. You will perform capacity planning for all network resources, conduct regular reviews of performance metrics, and provide day-to-day engineering support to ensure environmental stability. Additionally, you will develop documented procedures and run books for the engineering and NOC teams, utilize various network design documentation tools, and collaborate with clients and colleagues to troubleshoot business-impacting network issues effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Interface with clients and Lumen engineering teams to lead complex projects and communicate client needs.
  • Architect, design, implement, and troubleshoot diverse multi-protocol networks for the financial industry.
  • Perform capacity planning for all network resources, including devices and circuits.
  • Conduct regular reviews of performance metrics and provide performance tuning and engineering support.
  • Develop documented procedures and run books for engineering and NOC teams for routine tasks.
  • Utilize network design documentation tools to document network designs and configurations.
  • Collaborate with clients and colleagues to troubleshoot business-impacting network issues.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience/education.
  • A minimum of 7 years in the financial industry, preferably in a trading environment.
  • Excellent documentation and technical writing skills.
  • Expert level knowledge of network architecture, routing, switching, and network automation.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Good communication skills and customer-focused approach.
  • Ability to work effectively with others and independently.
  • Cisco or similar industry certifications are a plus.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Data Center architecture/design/management.
  • Familiarity with packet tracing technologies for troubleshooting network issues.
