About the position

The Lead Network Engineer at Scientific Research Corporation will play a pivotal role in supporting the mission objectives of the customer. This position requires a blend of individual initiative and teamwork, as the engineer will be responsible for troubleshooting network systems, resolving connection issues, and identifying security vulnerabilities. The ideal candidate will possess the analytical skills necessary to recommend upgrades and improvements to maintain the efficiency and functionality of the range network. In this role, the engineer will evaluate and maintain various network technologies, including microwave radios, legacy TDMA radios, and Carrier Ethernet, utilizing Mesh, P2P, and P2MP networks. The engineer will also help establish guidelines, policies, and procedures related to network risks and range security, conducting audits of network equipment and implementing security strategies. Additionally, the engineer will be responsible for integrating new network equipment, which includes requirements gathering, planning, evaluation, procurement, integration, testing, and monitoring. The position also involves assisting in the planning of large-scale systems projects, conducting vendor comparisons, and performing cost studies. The engineer will need to resolve interoperability issues to ensure operations across all platforms and will collaborate with other contracting groups to achieve mission goals. This position is primarily on-site, requiring the engineer to be located in or willing to relocate to the Fairbanks Alaska / Eielson Air Force Base area.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and maintain microwave radios, legacy TDMA radios, and Carrier Ethernet utilizing Mesh, P2P, and P2MP networks.
  • Establish guidelines, policies, and procedures surrounding network risks and range security.
  • Audit range network equipment and implement security strategies.
  • Evaluate and maintain network elements including Routers, Switches, IDS/IPS, AAA, Firewalls, and VPNs.
  • Perform security scans, carry out backups and updates, and investigate security incidents.
  • Integrate new range network equipment including requirements, planning, evaluation, procurement, integration, testing, and monitoring.
  • Assist in the planning of large scale systems projects through vendor comparison and cost studies.
  • Resolve network interoperability problems to obtain operations across all platforms.
  • Work with and manage other contracting groups to achieve mission goals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Network, Computer, or Electrical engineering with 3+ years of work experience or 10+ years of experience.
  • Expertise in networking concepts such as IPv4, IPv6, multicast, routing, VPN, 802.1x, and current security protocols.
  • Linux and Windows system network administration experience.
  • SECRET clearance with TOP SECRET clearance eligibility.

Nice-to-haves

  • CISSP, CCNP, JNCP or equivalent certification.
  • Low level network debug experience using Wireshark or equivalent.
  • Military training, weapons range electronic infrastructure, and electronic warfare experience.
  • Experience with microwave line of sight design and operation, including link budget calculations.
