About the position

The Lead Network Engineer at Lumen is a technical specialist responsible for leading the sustaining engineering of managed hosting datacenters. This role involves executing change requests, troubleshooting complex outages, and ensuring optimal system availability. The engineer will also create and maintain documentation to support infrastructure operations and collaborate with various teams to enhance service delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Resolving engineering level support problems
  • Managing software upgrades and lifecycle management
  • Overseeing hardware upgrades and lifecycle management, including migration and redesign
  • Escalating issues to the relevant Architecture team as required
  • Maintaining, troubleshooting, and coordinating the replacement of faulty hardware
  • Daily review and action of open projects, updating Project Managers on their status
  • Creative problem-solving to identify the source of problems
  • Creating or updating documentation including network diagrams, procedures, and policies
  • Providing guidance to adjacent support tiers for complex incidents
  • Partnering with the Problem Management Centre to reduce recurring incidents
  • Managing infrastructure Problem Management
  • Reviewing system and network configurations with Service Delivery
  • Logging cases to 3rd party vendors for unresolved issues
  • Performing other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Outgoing team player with decision-making abilities
  • Positive and proactive attitude
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft products
  • Troubleshooting basic server problems
  • Organized and able to work under pressure
  • Detailed knowledge of networking and security technologies including Cisco and Juniper equipment
  • Understanding of key networking concepts such as TCP/IP, Layer 2 and Layer 3 switching, and routing protocols
  • In-depth troubleshooting and strong analytical skills
  • Experience with packet capturing technologies like Wireshark and NetScout
  • Knowledge of platform technologies including Microsoft Windows, Unix, and/or Linux
  • Familiarity with DNS
