As a Lead Network Engineer at Lumen Technologies, you will play a pivotal role in the evolution of the worldwide Internet backbone. This position requires you to interact with various teams including Architecture (IP and Security), Planning, Operations, Lab, and Systems (NSD, alarming) to implement the necessary equipment and designs. Your responsibilities will include researching, writing, and testing requirements for hardware and software to ensure interoperability and validation of features, functions, and behavior. You will apply advanced engineering and network principles, theories, concepts, and technologies to solve unusually complex problems and issues that arise in the network infrastructure. In this role, you will also be responsible for driving vendor requirements, resolving bug fixes, and managing code upgrades and vendor development as necessary. As a subject matter expert, you may act as a technical project lead or provide leadership for lower-level employees. Your self-motivation, problem-solving capabilities, sense of urgency, and accountability will be crucial in ensuring the success of the projects you undertake. This hybrid position requires you to be onsite at the customer location once a week, allowing for a blend of remote and in-person collaboration. The Lead Network Engineer will be expected to have a deep understanding of Internet (IP) Engineering, including expertise in protocols such as BGP, IS-IS, MPLS, BFD, and LLDP. You will need to demonstrate detailed experience in BGP route policy and the redistribution of routes between protocols, as well as expert-level troubleshooting knowledge with multiple vendor routing and forwarding architectures. Your role will also involve designing and configuring servers on BOBJ, applying advanced engineering principles to resolve complex interoperability problems, and ensuring the network's security and efficiency.
