About the position

We currently have a need for a NPI Manufacturing Engineer, a high-profile and key role, within the Operations team at our Laser Systems and Measurement (LSM) Group located in Wilsonville, Oregon, just minutes south of Portland. LSM designs and manufactures precision solid state lasers for scientific, medical, instrumentation, and vision markets, as well as calibrated laser measurement systems for a wide variety of laser types and power applications, providing critical technology to thousands of global customers with a wide range of products specifically tailored to satisfy demanding customer requirements. The NPI Manufacturing Engineer will be responsible for leading and supporting new product introduction preparation and execution. This includes providing ongoing product design support necessary to improve product quality and cost. The role requires collaboration with design engineering to coordinate the release of new products from the design phase into production. Additionally, the engineer will diagnose and debug product and manufacturing issues, implementing corrective actions as necessary. Interfacing with Product Line Managers, the engineer will lead the release of limited design product variants in operations. Timely communication of assigned project progress is essential, which will be achieved through weekly formal presentations of key metrics, project schedules, and action item lists. The engineer will also estimate manufacturing costs, determine time standards, and make recommendations for tooling and process requirements of new product lines. Reviewing BOM structures and submitting changes required for optimal manufacturing effectiveness will be part of the responsibilities, along with coordinating with planners, buyers, and production management. The role also involves proposing and justifying capital and expense expenditures necessary to provide new production capability, as well as assisting in forecasting capital and expense requirements in advance of need.
