About the position

The Lead Orthodontic Assistant plays a crucial role in providing exceptional orthodontic care and support to both patients and orthodontists. This position involves a variety of responsibilities, including assisting in chair-side procedures, managing patient records, and educating patients on oral hygiene. The Lead Orthodontic Assistant is also responsible for training new staff and ensuring compliance with safety protocols, all while contributing to a positive team environment focused on patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare patients for orthodontic treatments, including cleaning teeth, taking X-Rays, and making impressions.
  • Examine patient's mouths and take notes of irregularities.
  • Assist the orthodontist during procedures, such as adjusting braces and placing orthodontic appliances.
  • Manage patient records and update charts.
  • Educate patients on proper oral hygiene and orthodontic care.
  • Sterilize instruments before and after use.
  • Follow safety and infection control protocols.
  • Complete Invisalign procedures, including attachments and adjustments, and scans.
  • Complete Full Arch Bonding top and bottom, as well as bonding fixed retainers.
  • Debonding and rebonding brackets.
  • Ensure that all appliances have been received for the clinic day.
  • Complete OSHA weekly, monthly, and quarterly tasks on administrative days.
  • Use various digital scanners to make clear retainers.
  • Help train new orthodontic assistants.
  • Participate in marketing events.
  • Deliver expanders, space maintainers, and forsus.
  • Assist with evaluating potential new orthodontic assistants or assistants in training.
  • Communicate with patients and parents regarding poor oral health, non-compliance, and broken brackets.
  • Perform all duties and responsibilities of the role when traveling to another clinic, including administrative tasks.

Requirements

  • 1 year of orthodontic assisting experience required.
  • Availability on Saturdays.
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Certificate of completion for Orthodontic Assistant Courses preferred.
  • Ability to learn quickly and efficiently.
  • Strong multitasking skills.
  • Professional, organized, and detail-oriented.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Spanish speaking preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with digital scanners and orthodontic software.
