About the position

The Lead Platform Engineer (Network, WIFI) at Capital One is responsible for designing, building, and testing new WiFi deployments and network upgrades. This role involves collaborating with security teams to ensure compliance with security standards, providing escalation support to the wireless network operations team, and contributing to enterprise network design standards. The position requires a passion for technology and mentoring within the engineering community, utilizing various programming languages and tools to drive transformation within the company.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in design, build, and test activities related to new WiFi deployments and network upgrades.
  • Create technical design documents and implementation plans.
  • Work with the security organization to assess exposure, identify mitigation plans, and ensure compliance with all relevant security configuration standards.
  • Provide escalation/oncall support to the wireless network operations team.
  • Provide input to enterprise network design standards and maintain documentation.
  • Share your passion for staying on top of tech trends, experimenting with and learning new technologies, participating in internal & external technology communities, and mentoring other members of the engineering community.
  • Utilize programming languages like Java, Python, SQL, Ruby and Go, Container Orchestration services including Docker and Kubernetes, CM tools including Ansible and Terraform, and a variety of AWS tools and services.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent certification
  • At least 6 years of experience using build and deployment tools (Jenkins, GitHub, or Artifactory)
  • At least 4 years of experience with AWS
  • At least 2 years of team leadership experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Deep understanding of WLAN technologies, network management, and security, including 802.11 b/g/n/ac standards and industry best practices.
  • Experience implementing high-density WiFi solutions.
  • Fundamental knowledge of security protocols and authentication (WPA2, EAP-TLS, 802.1x, AAA).
  • 3+ years of DevOps Engineering experience.
  • 2+ years of experience with coding and scripting (Python, SQL, Java, JavaScript, Golang, Bash, Perl or Ruby).
  • 2+ years of experience with deploying clustered web services.
  • 2+ years of experience working within Agile Development Practices.
