The Lead Police Officer (Sergeant) position at the Tennessee Valley Healthcare System involves overseeing police operations at the VA Medical Centers in Murfreesboro, TN. The role includes executing law enforcement duties, ensuring compliance with regulations, and maintaining a safe environment for staff and patients. The officer will lead a team, manage workloads, and engage with the community to prevent crime and respond to incidents effectively.
Responsibilities
- Lead a unit or team of police officers and distribute workload according to established procedures.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, county, and municipal laws as they pertain to VA property.
- Write detailed offense reports and submit them in a timely manner.
- Conduct investigations and gather statements from victims and witnesses.
- Issue citations for observed violations of laws and regulations.
- Provide first aid to victims of accidents or assaults as needed.
- Pursue and apprehend suspects fleeing from crime scenes.
- Identify and respond to life-threatening situations, including natural disasters and criminal acts.
- Train and instruct team members in law enforcement techniques and procedures.
Requirements
- U.S. Citizenship is required to apply for this position.
- One year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-7 level in law enforcement operations.
- Knowledge of laws and regulations related to law enforcement and public safety.
- Ability to lead and manage a team effectively.
- Experience in conducting investigations and preparing detailed reports.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience in military police or similar law enforcement roles.
- Certification in first aid and CPR.
- Familiarity with VA policies and procedures.
