The Lead Police Officer (Sergeant) position at the Tennessee Valley Healthcare System involves overseeing police operations at the VA Medical Centers in Murfreesboro, TN. Responsibilities

  • Lead a unit or team of police officers and distribute workload according to established procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, county, and municipal laws as they pertain to VA property.
  • Write detailed offense reports and submit them in a timely manner.
  • Conduct investigations and gather statements from victims and witnesses.
  • Issue citations for observed violations of laws and regulations.
  • Provide first aid to victims of accidents or assaults as needed.
  • Pursue and apprehend suspects fleeing from crime scenes.
  • Identify and respond to life-threatening situations, including natural disasters and criminal acts.
  • Train and instruct team members in law enforcement techniques and procedures.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required to apply for this position.
  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-7 level in law enforcement operations.
  • Knowledge of laws and regulations related to law enforcement and public safety.
  • Ability to lead and manage a team effectively.
  • Experience in conducting investigations and preparing detailed reports.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in military police or similar law enforcement roles.
  • Certification in first aid and CPR.
  • Familiarity with VA policies and procedures.
