About the position

The Lead Polysomnographic Technologist at Houston Methodist serves as the primary lead for an assigned shift or area, performing advanced polysomnographic procedures and overseeing the work of other technologists. This role involves acting as a liaison between management, staff, and physicians, ensuring exceptional patient care and adherence to safety and quality standards. Responsibilities include training and mentoring staff, conducting quality assurance audits, and managing departmental performance metrics.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and initiate problem resolution within the work unit.
  • Facilitate teamwork by coordinating department needs and responding positively to requests for assistance.
  • Orient, guide, and mentor team members, including Polysomnographic Technologists and support staff.
  • Implement protocols and objectives to optimize staff performance and patient safety.
  • Execute clinical and critical thinking skills in challenging procedures and patient care situations.
  • Provide patient care and education regarding sleep study treatment concepts.
  • Monitor and adjust activities of the assigned team to ensure optimum patient throughput.
  • Perform polysomnographic data acquisition and ensure signal quality.
  • Score sleep/wake stages and clinical events per established protocols.
  • Conduct quality audits on equipment, processes, and team member performance.
  • Document all patient care and polysomnography related activities accurately.
  • Initiate and lead department projects and shared governance activities.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an education program approved by the credentialing body for required credentials.
  • Four years of experience as a Polysomnographic Technologist, with at least one year in a leadership capacity.
  • Registered Polysomnographer Technologist (RPSGT) or Registered Respiratory Therapist Sleep Disorder Specialty (RRT-SDS) certification required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
