The Lead Process Engineer will be responsible for supporting the Poromerics operating unit, with a primary focus on the front end modules. The Lead Process Engineer reports to the Poromerics Technical Area Manager. The role involves understanding all applicable process technology, equipment, and control technology. The engineer will work with Technical Advising, Product Quality, and plant personnel to optimize operations, meet business and plant goals, including production, cost, and quality. The Lead Process Engineer is also responsible for the application of Process Safety Management for the areas and participates in advanced troubleshooting while coaching others to learn these skills. Implementing best practices in operations to optimize operations is crucial, ensuring that Standard Operating Procedures and specific Operating Discipline requirements are in place. The engineer will perform appropriate Manage Production roles as determined by Plant/Business, such as operating the plant, maintaining operating discipline, and recording production. They will apply skills and knowledge in Statistical Process Control (SPC) technology to maximize plant asset utilization and produce low-cost, quality products. The Lead Process Engineer will review charts on a daily basis, be accountable for Process Control Systems, respond to and document Out of Control data points, and draft Corrective Action Plans for repeat situations. They will initiate changes to Plant Operating procedures to ensure they are valid and up to date, working closely with the Technical Advisor. Networking with other engineers on site and within the global business to leverage knowledge on plant operations is also a key responsibility. As required, the engineer will communicate technical information and issues to plant personnel, Technology, or Expertise centers, participate in and lead teams, own, monitor, and track KPIs, implement process improvements in support of reduction of variation, capacity, and yield improvement, and monitor and improve raw material variability. They will work with the Quality Coordinator, TA, and others as required to disposition non-conforming products and conduct and participate in RCA, FMEA, etc. as required.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering is required, Chemical Engineering degree preferred.
  • 5+ years of production engineering experience is preferred.
  • Experience with Process Safety Management and High Hazard Processes is strongly preferred.
  • Previous experience with statistical process control (SPC) and analysis strongly preferred.
  • Basic understanding of statistics required.
  • Previous experience with batch chemical processing preferred.
  • Experience participating in or leading PHAs is desirable.
  • Experience with interpreting and dispositioning based on analytical results is a plus.
  • Previous experience with Lean Six Sigma or a certification is a plus.
  • Ability to prioritize and complete assigned work independently and within teams.
  • Previous knowledge of machine safety protocols required.
  • Excellent communication, analysis, troubleshooting, and organizational skills.
