We are looking for a passionate and dedicated Process Mechanical Lead Engineer in one of our Ohio offices or Bingham Farms, MI office. As part of our team, you'll have the chance to work on projects that bring innovative solutions to our municipal clients' water and wastewater challenges locally and worldwide. As our Process Mechanical Lead Engineer, you'll be charged with planning, preliminary, and detailed design of water and wastewater treatment plants across Ohio and the region. This will include specifications and drawings associated with treatment plant upgrades and expansions. You will be preparing general arrangement drawing for treatment equipment and tanks, designing piping and pumping systems as well as provide oversight of construction. You'll also evaluate and select equipment, piping materials and valves, assist with facility layouts, develop calculations, process flow diagrams, P&IDs and construction documents. In addition, you'll coordinate with other project disciplines, direct the work of CAD designers, and produce construction documents. Using your leadership skills, you'll be part of a team engaged in delivering some of the most exciting projects in the Region and beyond. You'll serve on projects as the Process Mechanical Discipline Lead which is one of the most important roles on a design project. You'll oversee process mechanical teams and provide overall leadership to projects. This role will also serve as the point of contact for our process mechanical practice which will include collaborating within the community of practice, setting standards and best practices within our region, most importantly, mentoring and growing our team. At Jacobs, you'll also have the chance to work across all of our core water technical areas which are Drinking Water & Reuse, Municipal Wastewater, Distribution and Conveyance, Water Resources, and Industrial Water.

Responsibilities

  • Planning, preliminary, and detailed design of water and wastewater treatment plants.
  • Preparing specifications and drawings for treatment plant upgrades and expansions.
  • Designing piping and pumping systems.
  • Providing oversight of construction.
  • Evaluating and selecting equipment, piping materials, and valves.
  • Assisting with facility layouts.
  • Developing calculations, process flow diagrams, P&IDs, and construction documents.
  • Coordinating with other project disciplines.
  • Directing the work of CAD designers.
  • Producing construction documents.
  • Overseeing process mechanical teams.
  • Serving as the point of contact for the process mechanical practice.
  • Collaborating within the community of practice.
  • Setting standards and best practices within the region.
  • Mentoring and growing the team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil, Environmental, Mechanical Engineering, or similar degree from an accredited university or college.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in various aspects of process mechanical design of water and wastewater systems.
  • Holds an active professional engineering (PE) license.
  • Experience and familiarity with National Building Codes, EPA regulations, and 10 States Standards.
  • Capable of working in a team environment, including giving and receiving critical feedback.
  • Strong and effective verbal and written communications skills.
  • Successful experience with working and managing remote domestic and international staff.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

Nice-to-haves

  • 10+ years' experience in industrial, water, or wastewater process mechanical engineering.
  • Proficiency in hydraulic modeling software such as AFT Fathom, Pipe-Flo.
  • Developing process flow diagrams to define mass balance.
  • Participating in planning, cost development and management, and scheduling for assigned projects.
  • Working with construction management staff to ensure that construction, installation, and operational testing conform to specifications, codes and standards, and client requirements.
  • Experience during construction including installation, startup, and/or troubleshooting.
  • Proficiency in Microstation and/or Autodesk design suites.
