About the position

The Lead, Produce position at SpartanNash is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the produce department in a retail store, ensuring that associates are trained, the department is fully staffed, and that all company standards and performance indicators are met. This role supports the department manager in various operational tasks, including inventory management, staffing, and maintaining product quality, while also fostering a People First culture within the team.

Responsibilities

• Lead day-to-day activities of the produce department in the absence of the department manager.
• Order and maintain inventory while utilizing inventory control procedures.
• Review and validate received orders for quality and condition.
• Manage a team to ensure product quality and proper rotation of date-sensitive items.
• Maintain familiarity with all products in the department and store.
• Communicate and execute the weekly and period Flight Plan to company expectations.
• Support the department manager in scheduling, labor control, and payroll management.
• Implement company policies and model core values and competencies.
• Assist in staffing, training, and performance management of associates.
• Attend daily huddles and manager meetings as required.
• Maintain a clean and well-stocked department following safety and food guidelines.

Requirements

• High School Graduate or Equivalent (GED).
• 0-2 years of retail experience preferred.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Good organization, prioritization, and decision-making skills.
• Strong leadership abilities in a hands-on environment.
• Good knowledge of retail store operations and management systems.
• Proficient in Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
• Ability to communicate in Spanish is highly desirable.
