About the position

McKesson is seeking a Lead Product Applications Engineer to provide technical expertise in the development and deployment of customizations to the practice management system for The US Oncology Network. This role is pivotal in aiding the deployment of vendor-provided enhancements, with a strong emphasis on interoperability. The engineer will act as an escalation point and subject matter expert in project execution and critical issue resolution, ensuring that business operations are optimized within the practice management application. Collaboration with business stakeholders is essential to align customer requirements with the application development roadmap, and the engineer will serve in a consultative capacity to facilitate this alignment. In addition to technical responsibilities, the Lead Product Applications Engineer will be involved in making presentations on technical aspects of products, which may include customer-facing presentations. The role requires assisting customer engineering staff through various forms of communication during program development and providing follow-up support to disseminate technical information on specific customizations. The engineer will also be responsible for building, overseeing testing, and implementing changes, including enhancements and complex break fixes, while evaluating the impact of all changes against existing features and connected systems. Availability after normal business hours may be required for complex troubleshooting and the implementation of critical changes. This position is designed for a highly skilled individual who can manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks effectively, and work collaboratively with various stakeholders, including business analysts, IT teams, customers, and vendors. The engineer will play a crucial role in ensuring the successful implementation and ongoing support of the athenaIDX system as it evolves.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical expertise for the development and deployment of customizations to the practice management system for The US Oncology Network.
  • Aid in the deployment of vendor-provided enhancements to the practice management system, focusing on interoperability.
  • Act as an escalation and subject matter expert in project execution and critical issue resolution.
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to optimize business operations in the practice management application.
  • Align customer requirements with the application development roadmap in a consultative role.
  • Act as a subject matter expert in interoperability, data mapping, conversion, management, and transformation.
  • Make presentations on technical aspects of products, including customer-facing presentations.
  • Assist customer engineering staff in personal, electronic, and documented interface during program development.
  • Provide follow-up support in disseminating content or technical information on specific customizations in applications or solutions.
  • Act as a resource for colleagues with less experience and may direct the work of others without formal management responsibilities.
  • Build, oversee testing, and implement changes, including enhancements and complex break fixes.
  • Evaluate the impact of all changes against existing features, functionality, and connected systems.
  • Be available after normal business hours for complex troubleshooting and critical changes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent discipline or 10+ years of equivalent work experience required.
  • 10+ years' experience in athenaIDX architecture, administration, and maintenance best practices.
  • 10+ years' experience in troubleshooting, debugging, and performance optimization in athenaIDX preferred.
  • 7+ years' experience in integration of various systems and components within athenaIDX preferred.
  • 5+ years' experience in testing and quality assurance practices and change management preferred.
  • 5+ years' experience with interoperability such as JSON, XML, HL7, and EDI preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Strong technical knowledge and experience in engineering, computer science, or a related discipline.
  • Ability to quickly learn and adapt to new technologies.
  • Experience in working directly with customers in technical support, customer service, or sales engineering roles.
  • Previous experience in a similar product application engineering role, including analyzing customer requirements and customizing products.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize tasks effectively.
