About the position

The Lead Production Operator for Powders is responsible for overseeing the night shift production operations, ensuring the execution of the daily production schedule while coordinating operator and machine time. This role involves hands-on leadership in the low temperature encapsulation process, including slurry manufacturing, drying systems, and final product packaging. The operator will also conduct in-process testing to maintain product specifications and uphold cleanliness and organization in the workspace.

Responsibilities

  • Execution of the daily production schedule and other operating activities including coordination and effective use of operator and machine time.
  • Complete shift pass-along with incoming shift lead upon shift change to include dryer status, slurry production and conditions of the floor operations, and daily shift reporting for head of manufacturing.
  • Report downtime, shortages and assist with CI and root cause corrections.
  • Coordinate with production scheduler on any changes / progress with daily schedule.
  • Understand batch instructions and is comfortable with accurately weighing materials using scales and operating different styles of pumps and mixers.
  • Versed in GMP and SQF requirements in flavor/food production areas.
  • Sets up drying system according to established procedures.
  • Operates drying system in accordance with established standards including adjusting dryer/atomizer controls efficiently to maximize run rate.
  • Performs in-line quality checks during production.
  • Maintain proper paperwork and record keeping.
  • Clear and timely communication regarding issues with production batches or schedule.
  • Understands the importance of cleaning of both equipment and workspace. Performs Master Cleaning Schedule duties.
  • Discipline to manage an organized inventory of raw materials and finished product in appropriate storage conditions.
  • Flexibility to assist in other departments or employees.
  • Performs shipping and receiving duties which includes wrapping pallets, loading and unloading trucks, sampling, and various documentation requirements.
  • Occasionally may run powder blending operation per established procedures.
  • Perform routine maintenance, as required (FMX), on equipment.
  • Understanding of food safety practices and applying them to manufacturing activities.
  • Supports commitment to Food Safety and Quality Policy, including the site Food Safety Culture.
  • Follows food safety and food defense procedures as instructed and required.

Requirements

  • Strong math skills. Comfortable with conversions (i.e. lbs. to kilos)
  • Forklift certified
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs. and be comfortable with physical requirements such as standing, crouching, kneeling, crawling and routine lifting.
  • Good decision making/problem solving skills
  • Discipline to work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals
  • Comfortable with using lab equipment (Viscometer, Scale, Infrared Moisture Balance) for process testing
  • Has general computer skills and can learn to utilize our X3 manufacturing system.
