About the position

Stony Brook Medicine is seeking a highly skilled Lead Programmer Analyst to join its Enterprise Analytics team. This role involves working in a fast-paced environment to acquire and analyze data from multiple sources, assisting team members with data modeling, extraction, and reporting processes. The Lead Programmer Analyst will support clinical and administrative leadership in making strategic data-driven decisions by providing actionable insights and ensuring the accuracy and performance of reports and data systems.

Responsibilities

  • Extract data from multiple source systems and produce reports for patient care and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with clinical and administrative departments to develop data marts, reports, and dashboards.
  • Optimize existing SQL queries to improve report performance and accuracy.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of the Enterprise Analytics report catalog and data dictionaries.
  • Integrate data from various clinical and administrative applications for technical projects.
  • Design and operationalize database models and schemas for custom data marts and dashboards.
  • Create dashboards and visualizations to meet project stakeholder requests.
  • Author technical requirements documents and design specifications for team use.
  • Document and communicate data analysis results effectively to stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with internal and external regulations regarding database implementation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, or related field; or an Associate's degree with at least five years of relevant experience.
  • 3 to 5+ years of experience in data mining, acquisition, transformation, and validation of structured and unstructured data.
  • Minimum of 3 years of professional experience as a Data Reporting Analyst in a data-driven environment.
  • Experience in extracting data to produce reports and files.
  • Proficient in using Crystal Reporting or similar report writing tools.
  • Strong knowledge of Relational Databases and SQL, with experience in SQL Server or Oracle.
  • Experience with Tableau or other statistical visualization software.
  • Experience supporting production systems for data analytics or statistical modeling.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Proficient in the MS Office Product suite.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with database schema design and modeling for efficient information retrieval.
  • Experience with stored procedures and querying complex datasets using joins.
  • Experience optimizing SQL statements using indexes and best practices.
  • Experience with statistical data analytics and predictive modeling software.
  • Experience with Cerner or other Electronic Medical Record applications.
