About the position

At Stony Brook Medicine, the Lead Programmer Analyst - Revenue Cycle plays a crucial role in developing and supporting all revenue cycle systems within the department. This position involves working on various projects as a technical build resource and ensuring the availability of production systems. The Lead Programmer Analyst may also oversee the work of other analysts as needed. Candidates for this role are expected to demonstrate superior patient care and possess outstanding communication skills while adhering to the organization's high standards of excellence. The responsibilities of the Lead Programmer Analyst include providing support for all Revenue Cycle applications such as Siemens INVISION, Cerner, Eclipsys, Craneware, HANYS, and 3M. The incumbent will offer technical and strategic input to the leadership team to drive transformational changes and make recommendations on industry trends and application integration. Establishing architectural standards and frameworks is essential to ensure consistent application of these standards. The role requires providing technical guidance on complex architecture challenges and participating actively in all phases of the application development life cycle. Additionally, the Lead Programmer Analyst will coordinate activities between technical and functional teams, resolve system design issues, identify technical requirements, and develop testing, training, and conversion plans. The incumbent will also assist project teams in planning and coordinating these efforts, monitor project timelines and quality, and facilitate communication among all parties involved in implementations. This role is critical in predicting problems early and addressing issues that may impact other project areas. The Lead Programmer Analyst will work closely with vendors and internal resources to resolve any open issues, ensuring the smooth operation of revenue cycle systems.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support to all Revenue Cycle applications including Siemens INVISION, Cerner, Eclipsys, Craneware, HANYS, and 3M.
  • Provide technical and strategic input to the leadership team to help drive transformational changes.
  • Make recommendations on industry and application integration trends in analyzing and planning current and future IT needs.
  • Establish architectural standards and frameworks to ensure consistent application of standards.
  • Provide technical guidance on complex and cross-application architecture challenges.
  • Plan an active role as a technical expert during all phases of the application development life cycle.
  • Participate in architecture brainstorming and design discussions with team members.
  • Participate in all global and departmental process design activities with systems implementation activities.
  • Coordinate activities of technical and functional teams to resolve system design issues and identify technical requirements.
  • Develop testing, training, and conversion plans.
  • Coordinate appropriate resources in the development of foreign system and instrument interface specifications.
  • Work closely with Project Manager on all aspects of the project.
  • Assist in the development of detailed project plans regarding build tasks necessary to complete projects.
  • Determine the order and timing of task completion.
  • Develop and maintain environmental/domain planning according to project timelines.
  • Assist project teams in planning and coordination of testing and training plans.
  • Identify resources needed and the role of each project team member.
  • Monitor projects continually in terms of timeline and overall quality.
  • Facilitate communication between all parties involved in an implementation to ensure effective teamwork.
  • Monitor project progress daily to predict problems and isolate issues that need to be addressed.
  • Facilitate the resolution of issues within the project team framework and escalate major issues to executive-level steering committees.
  • Work closely with vendors and internal resources to resolve open issues.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field.
  • At least 3 years of experience in healthcare-related IT revenue cycle applications.
  • Minimum three years of experience in a complex healthcare environment, preferably in academic medical centers or tertiary care settings.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Siemens Invision, Craneware, and Cerner applications, including PMOffice, AccessHIM, CPDI, and Batch Scanning.
  • Experience with Revenue Cycle architecture, system conversions, interfaces, and system migration with onboarding new hospitals.
  • Experience in a hospital or healthcare IT environment.
  • Experience with Patient Access and/or HIM System.
  • Knowledge of software development methodologies and best practices.
  • Additional technical, leadership, or project management experience.
