The Propulsion Systems Engineer Lead is responsible for technical and project leadership pertaining to propulsion systems, fluid control systems, or major subsystems on Phantom's launch vehicles, as well as associated ground test equipment and ground support equipment (GSE). This role supports and develops the team, leads technical delivery, and provides operational support to development and qualification test campaigns ranging from test plan/procedure definition to test execution and data analysis. Additionally, the Lead will collaborate with other members of the leadership team to develop strategy and ensure delivery. The essential functions of this role include, but are not limited to, the design, analysis, and optimization of rocket propulsion systems. The Lead will define requirements for propulsion systems, power systems, and vehicle fuel and tank systems. They will perform the definition, coordination, and control of the functional and physical interfaces between the propulsion system and the vehicle. The development of specifications and architectural and configuration concepts for associated vehicle systems to meet regulatory requirements is also a key responsibility. The Lead will conduct configuration and design of propulsion subsystems and components to meet all vehicle design and performance criteria, and will lead the use of various testing, analysis, modeling, and simulation tools to estimate or calculate system performance. Furthermore, they will define and perform certification tests for propulsion subsystems and components, develop concepts for future propulsion systems to meet anticipated requirements, and contribute to reports, manuals, and other technical documents. Other work-related duties may be assigned as necessary.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience with propulsion ground and flight test, analysis, integration, design, installation, and system support.
  • Strong understanding of materials, mathematics, science, and potential safety and functionality problems and solutions.
  • Excellent research, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication, project management, and planning skills.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Proficiency with computers.
  • Ability to develop and adhere to budgets and timelines.
